Cette étude examine comment les autorités chargées de la concurrence de trois juridictions (Afrique du Sud, Australie et Royaume-Uni) ont réagi aux projets de fusions et acquisitions d'entreprises impliquant des plateformes de mise en relation en ligne pour la vente de voitures. L'article examine l'acquisition notifiée (et finalement interdite) de WeBuyCars par MIH eCommerce Holdings en Afrique du Sud, l'acquisition notifiée (et autorisée) de Cox Media par Gumtree en Australie et, au Royaume-Uni, l'acquisition notifiée (et autorisée) de Motors.co.uk par eBay. L'auteur évalue les considérations en matière de concurrence qui ont été mises en avant dans chacune de ces trois affaires et, sur la base de ces déterminations, la décision des autorités chargées de la concurrence. L'article met ensuite en évidence certaines des complexités que ces plateformes numériques posent aux autorités chargées de la concurrence, ainsi que les moyens possibles de remédier au problème.
